In the novel Zack, the author, William Bell suggests that people need to communicate. This is very important to know mainly because lack of connection can lead to a disastrous result. In the story the author uses Etta and Lucas, Etta and Zack and Zack and Etta, to convince the reader to his thought process about connection and final result.
Zack and Etta's lack of communication led to an unhealthy relationship. A good example of this would be Etta's decision in order to avoid confronting Zack about his refusal to pursue music. вЂќYou never took music in school. Just to be contraryвЂќ (pg 185) because Etta never asked Zack regarding her hunch, she was unable to learn the truth. One more example will be when Zack realises what his mother had deduced from his behaviour. " She got concluded that I had avoided studying music to spite her. вЂќ (pg 186) The miscommunication between Zack and Etta create a poor romantic relationship between the two. When Etta finally conveys her thoughts to Zack he talks about the truth in back of his decisions, strengthening their very own bond in general. Communication prevents negative assumptions and some doubts form developing within any relationship.
Etta and Lucas's lack of communication severed all jewelry between them because neither comprehended the feelings of some other. Lucas does not write to Etta, believing a notice would not be all you need; however , he lacked the courage to view her real time. " You didn't wish to know... вЂќ " I seated down a dozen times to writeвЂќ (pg 209). Lucas is unable to present his emotions to his daughter, giving their marriage as it was standing, nonexistent. Finally seeing his grandson gave Lucas the courage to view Etta allowing him the chance to apologise never to only Etta, but Thom and Zack as well. Likewise, when Lucas fails to describe the reasoning behind his cruel phrases just after Etta had initial told him of her relationship with Thom.
